Support Shira’s run.
Make room for the conversation.

Kidneys and coffee. We have some experience with both.

We’re Shira and Eric. Cousins. In 2023, Shira gave Eric one of her kidneys. It was a fairly substantial family favor.

Now Shira is running the 2027 London Marathon for Kidney Donor Athletes. The Better Bean Project brings together her run, our story, and conversations about what kidney donation is actually like.

One of us donated. One of us received. We’d like to make it easier to talk to someone who’s been there.

Coffee with us

A donor. A recipient.
Bring your questions.

Thinking about donating? Facing a transplant? Supporting someone who is? The idea is simple: have coffee with Shira or Eric and talk about our experiences.

We can meet over a video call or, where practical, in person at a participating coffee shop. No presentation. No expectation that you’ve figured out what to ask.

Personal experience, shared openly. Medical decisions belong with your medical team.

Anyone can help

Support Shira’s run.
Help keep the conversation going.

Individuals, coffee shops, and businesses can sponsor The Better Bean Project by contributing to Shira’s London Marathon fundraiser for Kidney Donor Athletes.

For this round, all sponsorship contributions go through her official fundraiser for KDA. We take no cut. Sponsors are proudly acknowledged on this site, with a logo and link for participating businesses.

The conversations are our contribution. You don’t need to donate to ask for coffee. A shop can also offer the coffee and a place to meet, where location and availability allow.
